Hummingbirds Wallpaper is inspired by a childhood memory. Inspired by summers in Quebec, the artist remembers when she would be excited to observe the tiny hummingbirds gathering nectar from the trumpet-shaped flowers in the garden. The birds, which were absent the rest of the year, seem to know as soon as the flowers would bloom that it was time for them to make their entrance into the garden. In Native American culture, the hummingbird is a sign of luck and is often perceived as a healer. There is definitely something quite magical in the sight of a hummingbird as they often seem to appear out of nowhere and will vanish in the blink of an eye.
Catherine drew the bird of paradise flowers in this design from her New Zealand home’s porch next to where an enormous bush full of these bright orange flowers is growing. Since moving to New Zealand, Catherine has been moved by the beauty of the Colourful flowers popping up everywhere during spring and summer. This translates in her work by her choice of vibrant Colour palettes.
Made to order. Arrives in 10-15 days.
Inspired by her surroundings, Catherine Marion's wallpaper collection takes shape after the careful selection of a colour palette, this decision defines the whole atmosphere of every Folklore & Flora design. Once the colour palette is chosen, Catherine studies the flowers, foliage and animals she finds in her everyday life; observing new blooms in her garden, at the beach, at the side of the road or at the river. Catherine draws these observations in a sketch book she constantly carries with her.
